My heart goes out to our community members who lost their homes and livelihoods to this tragedy. I can only imagine the magnitude of your suffering right now. I wish I had words for you, but all I have is an open heart...

I am one of the lucky Ones. My home and my family are safe. We we had an easy place to land when we were displaced. Our home was not *really* ever in eminent danger.

But this morning, when it was time to wake...

As I watch a hazy sunrise from Northern California, I want to check in with you. At this point, my clinic remains closed until the air quality is no longer hazardous, especially to young children (fingers crossed, sometime next week!!)

I deeply apologize for the inconvenience. Please let me know if you need a re-fill of herbal prescriptions, and I will have herbs shipped to you ASAP, or guide you where to pick them up wherever...

A lot of mamas come to me in their third trimester. While I treat women throughout their entire pregnancies, the third trimester can come along with the added bonus of exacerbated symptoms such as insomnia, heart burn, swollen ankles, and carpal tunnel-- all symptoms that will bring them in to my office. Yet regardless of why they are coming into my office, there is one questions that I always ask: “Is your baby head down?”

It’s been a few weeks now, and the change in the Chinese zodiac is palpable. Just like the change of the seasons bringing about a predictable new energy—winter is introspective, spring is new and energized, summer is vibrant, and fall is abundant – the Chinese zodiac is a rotating calendar cycling through 12 different animals, each bringing a different energy to that year. Every two years is associated with a different element...

Herbal Salves are awesome. From cuts, to bruises, to rashes, and everything in between, I use them almost daily. A salve with higher beeswax content will create a nice lip balm, while adding more oil makes it perfect for massage. Salves are easy and effective medicine to keep around the home, and make great gifts too!

Though there are many on the market that are incredibly effective (one of my favorites is this healing salve fr...

I was first introduced to this glorious herb while working at Windsong Orchards in New Zealand. Every day at tea time, Jennie, the owner of the farm, would go out to her garden and break a few stems off her glorious lemon verbena plant, gently break them up, put the in the teapot and fill it with boiling water. Within seconds the intoxicating lemon aroma would fill the room. It was my first herbal love affair.

When I moved to S...

Today I opened up social media and a bold meme was staring me in the face: “Every time you are able to find humor in a difficult situation, you win”. This platitude is incredibly fitting for the energy of this monkey year.

The Chinese zodiac is a rotating calendar cycling through 12 different animals, each bringing a different energy to that year. Every two years is associated with a different element (wood-fire-earth-metal-wa...

I love that that eating fresh, organic, and even local is becoming more popular these days. I love that the mention of eating greens and taking herbs is not so foreign to many of my patients. However, there is one popular trend that I am extremely cautious about, and that's juice.

Yes, it's true, juicing your produce can pack a lot of punch in one glass -- especially if it is fresh pressed, which means it's not pasteurized (a...

Castor oil packs are something that I regularly recommend to people for a variety of health issues.  Castor oil is derived from the Castor bean (Ricinus communis) and has a long medicinal history dating back to ancient Egypt.   Castor oil packs are wonderfully healing, and one of my favorite self-care practices.

The oil is anti-inflammatory for the skin, and as our skin is an organ capable of absorbing whatever we...
